I find that when I mix pieces of my wardrobe together that I never have before, I get the same feeling I get when I buy new clothes. Since it has still been so hot, I knew I wanted to use my nautical pencil skirt as a base for a new outfit. One of the easiest ways to get more wear out of your clothes, is to pair the item with an unusual, unexpected color. This can also help make your wardrobe applicable year-round. Today I decided to pair my skirt with a rust orange blouse, and jewel-toned accessories to breathe some new life into it.

When I'm struggling to wear an item in a new way, I refer back to the Instyle Magazine's "Instyle's Fall Color Guide" app. I also made up several other outfits on Polyvore using Summery skirts (all affordable pieces). I then paired them with an unexpected Fall color to show how it transforms the look.

Sleeveless shirts are still okay to wear in these looks if necessary, but switch your silver jewelry to gold, and try for closed-toe shoes in leather, snakeskin, leopard, or suede to make sure everything else compliments the colors, and adds to the feel of Autumn.  The more full the skirt is, the more fitted your top should be, and vice-versa.

Thanks for reading!
